Advanced Fingerprint Lab

Fingerprint Lab Equipment

Intro & Objectives: Centre of Excellence Fingerprint Lab & Research Centre

The significance of advanced fingerprint lab in our country is paramount amid rising crime rates, as they provide essential forensic support to law enforcement agencies. Advanced fingerprint technology and the integration with systems like State AFIS ensure precise, reliable results that are crucial for securing convictions and exonerating the innocent. Additionally, the presence of sophisticated fingerprint analysis capabilities acts as a deterrent to potential offenders, contributing significantly to public safety and crime prevention across the country.

Following are the objectives for establishing CoE Fingerprint Lab & Research Centre:

1.Enhanced Criminal Justice System

(i)Improved Crime Solving: The CoE with Advanced fingerprint lab can help solve crimes more quickly & accurately

(ii) Cold Case Resolution: Unsolved cases can be revisited with better technology by bringing closure to long-standing investigations.

2 Serving National Interests

(i) Criminal Justice: Identifying suspects and linking them to crime scenes.

(ii) Candidate Identification: Certifying the identity of the candidates appearing in UPSC and other competitive exams.

(iii) Counter-Terrorism: Tracking and identifying individuals involved in terrorist activities.

Latentprint Development: Challenges & Methods

Latent prints can provide recognizable ridge details that can help identify the suspect/criminals. The latest research and innovations added with cutting edge technologies leverage the fingerprint experts to search, identify, develop, capture and document the latent fingerprints from various challenging evidence surfaces.

All visible fingerprint details are photographed and documented. The print residue that is left behind can often be very fragile so caution is taken to select and execute latent print processing methods that do not damage any possible ridge detail.

There are other components that can affect fingerprints and the method to develop and lift them. Factors include:

  • Age and other factors of the individual
  • Exposure to the environment
  • The surface where the fingerprint was placed

Advanced Equipment & Accessories for The Centre of Excellence Fingerprint Lab & Research Centre

Multispectral Latent Print Investigation System

Forensic imaging technology meets powerful multi-spectral illumination, in this complete solution multi-spectral illumination, in this complete solution  to the search, detection, and capture of evidence.

An investigator no longer needs to carry separate light sources, camera, filters, and goggles because the Crime-lite AUTO offers all this functionality in a single package.

Providing complete portability and ease of use for the operator, it is an essential tool for criminal investigators and first responders.

Detect and Examine

Perform real-time visible, fluorescent, and infrared examinations to reveal evidence including:

Body fluids, Fingerprints, Bone & Tooth, Gunshot Residues, Fibres, Shoeprints, Blood, Bruising, Drug Residues, Accelerants, DNA, Hair

Capture and Share

Improve evidence workflow and increase the  efficiency of examinations, by capturing video and images for immediate digital transfer to the forensic laboratory.

Advanced Fingerprint Imaging System -Enhancing Latent Fingerprints

Elicitation

The RASTR system employs techniques such as high-pass filtering and Fast Fourier Transform (FFT) to elicit and enhance latent fingerprints, even on challenging surfaces like multicolored postcards.

Separation

The system can also separate overlapping latent fingerprints, allowing for more accurate analysis and comparison of the individual impressions.

Preservation

The RASTR system automatically saves the processing history of each image, enabling users to undo or redo actions step-by-step, ensuring the integrity and traceability of the forensic examination process.

Automatic functions

  • Extraction and marking of minutiae on images of finger impressions
  • Detection of matching minutiae when comparing two images

Cyanoacrylate Fuming Chamber- Portable

Portable Fingerprint Fuming Chamber

Processing suspect fingerprints in the field can provide investigators with vital evidence in a fraction of the time that may be required to transfer evidence to a lab for examination.

A fully portable fingerprint chamber for the safe and controlled development of latent fingerprints at the crime scene.

Mounted within a rugged weather-proof case, the portable fuming chamber retains all of the features of a full sized fuming chamber and can be used for the development of fingerprints treated with cyanoacrylate (superglue) or the one-stage treatment that does not require the application of additional chemical dyes.

A fully-automated system with safety interlocks and self contained fume cleansing, it provides a safe treatment environment for the rapid visualization of fingerprints on evidence at the crime scene.

Advanced Fingerprint Enhancement & Capturing System

It is comprehensive imaging system for the detection, capture and enhancement of almost any type of fingerprint on any surface or background to ensure that maximum detail is revealed.

The system is equipped with a powerful 36.3MP camera and application-specific macro lenses, producing images of exceptional quality that reveal the finest details of fingerprints.

It provides a range of precise wavelengths from UV through visible to IR, enabling the visualization of every type of fingerprint, whether latent, contaminated, or chemically-treated.

RECOVER LFT- Fingerprint Enhancement & Capturing System

Extreme Heat Exposure: RECOVER LFT can reveal fingerprints on surfaces that have been exposed to extreme heat, such  as discharged bullet casings.

Washed and Corroded Surfaces: It can develop fingerprints  on metal and alloy surfaces, including those that have been corroded or deliberately washed clean.

Physically Removed Prints: It reveals fingerprints which have been physically removed from an object, outperforming existing fingerprint  development techniques.

Multiple Surfaces: It develops fingermarks across different surfaces simultaneously, such as  the plastic and metal components of a shotgun cartridge.

AMINO ACID RAPID IMAGER- AARI

The AARI Amino Acid Rapid Imager is a groundbreaking forensic technology that dramatically increases the speed and accuracy of fingerprint visualization on porous and semi-porous evidences specially on questioned documents. By combining multi-spectral illumination, high-resolution imaging, and intelligent AI-assisted software, AARI streamlines the entire fingerprint detection and photography process, delivering results in a fraction of the time required by traditional methods. It helps to automatically identify, crop and capture the developed fingerprints from paper documents and other evidence surfaces. The AARI’s automated illumination and image capture capabilities allow forensic experts to quickly document entire pieces of evidence, including documents up to A4/Letter size, in a matter of seconds.

High Resolution Capture- The AARI’s 61MP UV/color/IR camera and 1460ppi imaging resolution provide unparalleled detail, allowing forensic experts to capture and analyze even the most subtle fingerprint features with exceptional clarity.

AI based Auto Detection of Fingerprints- The AARI’s advanced software uses a powerful AI-trained algorithm to rapidly scan documents and identify areas of ridge detail, significantly reducing the time required for manual fingerprint examination.

Streamlined Markup and Reporting- High-resolution images can be automatically or manually marked up to highlight fingermarks, and then exported to a comprehensive PDF report, complete with a full audit trail for seamless documentation and evidence presentation.

Simplified Workflow: By combining illumination, imaging, and intelligent software into a single integrated system, the AARI eliminates the need for time-consuming manual processing, allowing forensic experts to achieve in minutes what previously took hours Once the fingermarks have been identified, the AARI’s software allows for efficient mark-up and the generation of comprehensive PDF reports, complete with high-resolution images and a full audit trail, for seamless presentation of evidence.
